Envivio Demonstrates 1080p MVC Encoding for 3D TV
Envivio began offering a public demonstration at NAB 2010 in which the company's current-generation 4Caster C4² Three Screens video encoder delivers full-resolution, 1080p, stereoscopic 3D content. The scalable, flexible software architecture of the Envivio 4Caster C4² video delivery platform makes it uniquely suited to accommodate changes brought about by new standards such as the MVC extension to the MPEG-4 AVC standard.
Unlike currently deployed "side-by-side" or "over-under" split image technologies that reduce the original resolution by half, the 4Caster C4² makes it possible to preserve and encode the full original image resolution in each eye, thus truly exploiting the maximum capabilities of the new generation of HD 3D displays.
For bandwidth constrained networks, the high-efficiency MVC encoding engine of the 4Caster C4² delivers full 1080p 3D with significant bandwidth savings over simulcasting a pair of 2D streams, while maintaining backward compatibility with legacy 2D receivers.
