Hispasat's First 3D Transmissions
Spain's satellite system Hispasat is working on a 3D project called '3DLive'. Hispasat recently transmitted its first 3D images, coverage of a soccer match. These transmissions were watched on a cinema theatre. The project has been investigating over the last year the most adequate method for broadcasting events in 3D live.
According to Peatras Mateos, Hispasat's president: "At Hispasat we carry on betting for the latest solutions giving an added value to our clients. Thanks to their wide bandwith our satellites are the ideal vehicule for the 3D transmisions which will reach the viewers soon."
These transmissions were made on Hispasat 1D satellite having 28 transponders on the Ku band and covering Europe, America and North Africa.
The '3DLive' project is co-financed by Spain's Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce in the frame of the Avanza Plan i+D and is also coordinated by Telefónica I+D.
After having tested the transmission of these images Grupo Hispasat will continue to take active part in the investigation and implementation of the transmission of 3D images. The company said its goal is to satisfy the growing demand for new technology, with participation in other projects in the field of the audiovisual services via satellite such as DVB 3DTV, TDT Universal for the transmissions of DTT on the satellite, Palco HD for the transmissions of HDTV, Latyhdos and Dessosat.
