Doremi Technologies at IBC 2009

Doremi Technologies is a leading developer and manufacturer of video servers for the broadcast and professional markets and has also achieved a leading position in digital cinema. Video products include high-performance compressed and uncompressed video servers and players operating up to 4K, as well as converters for baseband and file-based content. Digital cinema products feature the market-leading DCI player as well as mastering systems.

Doremi Cinema DCP-2000 Digital Cinema Player
The Doremi Cinema DCP-2000 is the most widely used JPEG 2000 DCI digital cinema player. It now operates in over 7800 screens worldwide, representing over 20 million projections and eighty-percent market share of 2K cinema. Since IBC2008 it has added to its 3D capabilities with support for RealD EQ ‘ghostbusting’ technology, become an approved licensee of Dolby 3D Digital Cinema and provided Closed Caption capability for the hard of hearing.

Doremi Cinema 4K Integrated Media Block
Doremi is repackaging its current 4K server technology into a 4K integrated media block (IMB) for DLP Cinema next generation electronics. This will secure a full solution for Texas Instruments and its OEMs’ upcoming Series II of 2K and 4K projectors. The development has included working with Texas Instruments DLP Cinema team for over a year to ensure compatibility of the IMB with TI’s next-generation electronics.

The IMB uses patent-pending (USPTO 20070263937) 4K media block technology that allows Doremi to capitalize on its 2K technology by only adding the 4K portion to the back end of the processing. This eliminates the need to design a whole new media block which would add significant time to any production release. Engineering samples of Doremi’s IMB will be made available to TI’s OEMs for integration into their next-generation projectors in Q3 2009. Production IMBs will be available in Q1 2010.

The 4K IMB provides exhibitors with a 4K road map and the opportunity to use a single server manufacturer throughout a multiplex. Exhibitors can use 2K and 4K as required while keeping the same external server hardware as well as benefiting from all the features available on Doremi servers such as closed captioning, server generated 2D/3D subtitles and live event playback.

V1 HD-2K
Extending Doremi's popular line of V1 Video Disk recorders and players the V1 HD-2K has all the features and functionality the industry has come to expect from Doremi products including superior resolution in a compact stand-alone package. It can record 3D files simultaneously or as separate left and right eye streams and supports all the SD/HD resolutions and frame rates. 3D files can also be imported to the V1 HD-2K using DoremiAM asset management software. For playback, the V1 HD-2K can connect directly to a display device capable of accepting separate 3D streams or via Doremi's new GHX-3D bridging device.

GHX-3D
The new GHX-3D encoder/decoder premiered at this year's NAB to rave reviews. Its compact size, low cost and ease of use make it an excellent bridging device that enables 2D equipment to work with 3D content. It encodes and decodes all the common 3D HD formats including line-by-line, side-by-side and checkerboard. This device is an ideal transition tool for enabling post production houses to expand their 3D services in a simple and economic way without incurring the costs of upgrading their existing recording and playback devices.

Dorem GHX-3D

On top of 2D-3D conversion, the GHX-3D also inherits the capabilities of the GHX-10, announced last year, that converts any-to-any format or scan rate between HDMI, DVI and SDI connections. Supporting SD, HD and 2K video it employs 12-bit bicubic interpolation for best quality pictures. The package also offers genlock, 8-channel audio, dual-link SDI and 3G-SDI connections for 4:4:4 2K film. Applications include computer DVI-to-HD-SDI conversion, HDMI or DVI resolution conversion, an HD/SD video upconverter/downconverter, and much more.

DSV-J2
Doremi's JPEG2000 and MPEG MXF 3D playback server is the DSV-J2. This server is capable of playing left and right eye streams separately, supporting all HD resolutions and frame rates including 2K and 4K 3D. This device is ideal for large screen venues such as concerts, theme parks, presentation and fixed installations. The advanced CineAsset software is supplied with DSV-J2 and allows the import of nearly all industry codec formats.

NuggetPro
The NuggetPro is Doremi's popular and economical HD playback device that is ideal for museums, theme parks, concerts and other venues where high quality imagery is critical. In conjunction with the GHX-3D and DoremiAM software, the NuggetPro is can playback 3D in all SD and HD resolutions and frame rates.

CineAsset V3.13
CineAsset is a software-based digital cinema mastering solution that converts popular computer files such as QuickTime, AVI, JPEG and TIFF to JPEG2000, unencrypted MFX wrapped files for playback on any digital cinema server including Doremi’s DCP-2000, DCP-2K4 and DSV-J2. Soon to be released, the new V3.13 CineAsset launches at IBC2009 and includes RGB to X’Y’Z’ colorspace conversion and rescaling.

Ideal for smaller, regional theatre chains with digital cinema systems, CineAsset software allows statutory messages, custom slides and local commercials to be quickly and easily produced in-house without any prior experience in digital cinema mastering. Now, exhibitors and advertisers have more flexibility on pre-show content file preparation and delivery to take full advantage of the high quality 2K digital cinema experience without the added expense and time of off-site mastering.

An audio dubbing application is also provided. A new optional version includes multiprocessor support to accelerate ingest to near real-time speeds. 3D Merge and 3D Splitting features allow the merging of two JPEG2000 clips into a single 3D file, or extracting both ‘eye’ streams from a 3D file.

DoremiAM
DoremiAM asset manager offers comprehensive, easy, step-by-step operation for the import of universal media files to a wide range of Doremi players and servers. The DoremiAM XP/Vista PC software operates with many file types and coding formats for the automated Gigabit transfer of media files as well as offering transport control for Doremi servers for browsing and selecting available media files for playback. The operation can also include conversion into the native Doremi server formats such as NTSC, PAL, 720p, 1080i, 1080p, and 2K.

The ‘universal’ digital media includes multiple video containers: Quicktime, WMV, AVI and MXF, and multiple codecs: Blackmagic 8-bit, Photo JPEG, MJPEG, Apple ‘none’, H.264, MPEG-2, DV, DVCPRO25, Avid DNxHD, XviD and DivX, and multiple image formats: TIFF, TARGA and JPEG as well as audio: MPEG (Layer I, II, III), WAV and AC3. DoremiAM works with Doremi servers including the high-end uncompressed V1-UHD (HD) and V1-UHD/LE (HD) players.
