Digital 3-D Podcast

For the fifth programme in this series, we speak to two people who are working hard to promote the benefits of digital cinema. We discuss the rate at which digital cinema installation are taking place, and how this is being affected by digital 3-D content production, and vice versa.

Paul Chesney is VP of Business Development at Arts Alliance Media, who provide a complete digital cinema service, from finance to installation. The cost of distribution is affected by the move to digital, as courier services give way to satellite and fibre-optic connections. As distributors and theatre owners become used to this new digital cinema market, Arts Alliance are helping the process along by promoting the Virtual Print Fee (VPF) initiative in Europe.

Tony Nowak is DTS Digital Cinema's MD in Europe. He joined DTS following a long career in the broadcast technology business. DTS is an established name in the cinema business, and best known for its theatre and home cinema surround sound systems. Tony is looking to build DTS Digital Cinema into a leading supplier of technology and services to content owners and exhibitors as the industry looks to migrate from celluloid to digital. The company's FilmStore content management system is key to its strategy. This in-theatre media management system is used by a number of cinema owners to receive, schedule and exhibit digital content.
