MainConcept - SunRyze SD & HD

SunRyze SD is designed to capture full D-1 resolution video (PAL or NTSC) and encode it into H.264 and MPEG-2 files or streaming at broadcast quality. It plugs into any PCI host PC or Workstation. SunRyze SD consists of the main board with all the DSP, FPGA, RAM and front-end chips connected to the PCI carrier board. For parallel video data processing the hardware uses five Texas Instruments TMS320DM642 DSP chips.

The MainConcept H.264 and MPEG-2 encoder software has been adapted and specially optimized for this DSP platform to produce excellent encoding quality in real-time. A controller application, which writes the stream to a file and previews video is provided in addition to a DirectShow source filter for the incoming video stream.

This solution running on the board produces the same high-quality results and contains the same tools as our PC-based SDK and MPEG Encoder application. While video encoding takes place on hardware, the optional real-time AAC encoding and MPEG-2 Transport Stream multiplexing (fully H.264 compliant) are done in software on the PC.

SunRyze HD has a PCI-X interface that plugs into a host PC or Workstation. All inputs and outputs are digital and adhere to the SDI standard. The DSP-based technology allows several boards to be used in parallel. This system is expandable to fit the required performance of your application.

SunRyze HD consists of the Mainboard, 1 or 2 DSP-ClusterBoards and an optional decoder board to provide a live preview of the encoded video:

- The Mainboard contains the inputs and outputs, the front-end to synchronize the incoming and outgoing signals to a reference, two FPGAs for data pre-processing and inter-board communication, combined 512 MB DDR RAM, an audio clock generator, a PCI-X Interface to the host PC and the expansion sockets. It is the platform to handle all the connected signal streams.

- The DSP-ClusterBoards are packed with 4 high performance TI-DSP TMS320C6415 running at 1GHz, a PCI-Interface, 128 MB DDR RAM each and an interconnection FPGA. These DSP-ClusterBoards can be plugged into the Mainboard's front and rear sides. In total, 8 DSPs work in parallel to achieve better than real-time performance regardless of the compression algorithm.

- The optional decoder board uses a standard decoder chip to preview the encoded video. This gives you immediate control over the quality of the encoded video. By using a standard decoder chip, you can also estimate the compatibility of the signal with typical consumer players.
