Ziggo and Sony Bring First Live 3D Broadcast

The Dutch cable operator Ziggo and Sony will broadcast the first live programme in 3D to the living room this coming Sunday, June 6. Famous Amsterdam venue Paradiso, will play host to the leaders of the major political parties in their final meeting before the General Election on June 9.

Sony will record the debate in 3D and Ziggo will distribute the signal across its network. The two companies claim this is a world first, a major political debate live in 3D. Sony will showcase the 3D coverage on 3D sets across the venue. The programme will be produced by public broadcaster BNN and will also be broadcast in regular SD 2D quality on the public digital channel Politiek 24 on all cable networks.

“We want to offer our viewers an exceptional experience”, said Marcel Nijhoff, CCO Ziggo, in a statement. According to Nijhoff the cabler will launch its 3D demo channel with the next few weeks and will also make 3D movies available from its VOD service.
