3D Broadcast for UPC Hungary

UPC has become the first company in Hungary to undertake a 3D transmission, broadcasting 3D video images with the use of its existing advanced cable network and digital mediabox in an exclusive press showcase in Budapest. At the same time, it has announced that its digital cable service is now received in 200,000 homes and VOD is available on the company’s entire network.

Commenting on the latest developments, Betzalel Kenigsztein, MD of UPC Hungary said: “Thanks to the continuous and farseeing investment into its infrastructure, UPC does not need to rebuild the network or change the equipments to be able to adopt further innovations. Our trial showed today that this robust fibre powered next generation cable network is not only capable to deliver over 100 Mbps ultrafast internet and to provide interactive and HD digital TV services, but also is ready for 3D”.

He added: “As HDTVs have gained ground within just a few years, we are confident that 3D enabled TV sets will also be largely available in the homes in the nearest future. While 3D content is limited at the moment for TV, one only needs to look at the 3D surge that is sweeping the cinemas to get a sense as to how quickly content providers will look to take advantage of the increasing sales of 3D capable flat screen TV’s. UPC stands ready to help their customers ride the 3D wave. We continue to believe in innovative services that can significantly improve the viewing experience and even change viewing behaviour.”
