TDVision and Kronomav Announce Real-Time S3D Encoding Tools
TDVision Systems announced in collaboration with Kronomav the availability of their award winning 2D+Delta / MVC encoding technology running on the NVIDIA Quadro Digital Video Pipeline. The system can ingest two gen-locked 3G/HD SDI interfaces from full HD resolution up to 4k per view. Real-time warping and conformance on the input pair of stereoscopic images is achieved by using Kronomav tools and real-time encoding is performed using TDVCodec 2D+Delta method with MPEG2, MPEG4/H.264 and MVC on the fly.
This universal encoding platform even provides support for 2D and 3D interim frame compatible formats. The system also provides stereo output for viewing the result directly from the system to any stereoscopic display or projection system. Since the system is a ruggedized Wintel TDVReady station inside a hardened case, it is ideal for productions and live events in a studio or in the field.
The unique characteristic of the TDVCodec 2D+Delta system is the way that the system encodes S3D video by comparing the left and right stereoscopic views and taking advantage of the redundancies between them. The Left view and the correlated Delta are then stored into a single stream, in such a way as to ensure backward compatibility on 2D legacy decoders. This encoded content has the benefit of being “In full HD3D where available.”
The 2D+Delta method leads to a reduction of bandwidth usage and huge cost savings, by servicing both the 2D and the 3D viewers with one channel leading to a better monetization of the 3D Ecosystem. TDVision's 2D+Delta technology is listed as part of the Multiview Video Coding (MVC), an amendment to the H.264 video compression standard, recently selected by the BDA as “Blu-ray 3D.”
