Czech Republic Prepares for 3D
UPC and Telefónica O2 are in the front of the queue to launch 3D services in the Czech Republic.
Quoting UPC’s spokesman Frantisek Malina, HN reports that the cableco is technically able to start broadcasting in 3D immediately but is awaiting content. Its decision to offer programming in 3D will be made at headquarters.
Martina Zabka, the spokesman for Telefónica O2, meanwhile says that the telco is ready to offer 3D as soon as “compelling content” becomes available.
Samsung 3D sets are expected to appear in Czech stores this week, with the cheapest models costing around CZK45,000 (€1,765). Panasonic 3D sets, costing up to CZK60,000, should become available in April.
A big selling point for 3D in the Czech Republic is likely to be the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
