ADB 3D Ready for Approval in 10 Weeks
Technology provider ADB has demonstrated how its 5000 series set-top boxes are capable of delivering both content and user interface in the 3D format. In a demonstration room at Cable Congress, Paul Bristow, vice-president of Strategy at ADB, showed a 3D version of the company’s Carbo user interface, which he said could be presented to operators for approval in less than 10 weeks.
“We haven’t altered the application logic at all, which meant it was very quick. It means you can bring 3D directly into the operator experience and it doesn’t have to be expensive.”
ADB is using the side-by-side format with the consumer only requiring a 3D capable TV display, albeit at a starting price of $2,500. 3D icons were shown with depth and shape, while a demonstration of future additions showed how VOD titles could be displayed like books on a shelf. The 5000 series already includes high definition and a personal video recorder.
NDS has also recently shown a version of its EPG with 3D graphics.
