First-ever 3-D Cinema Ad Released

The first-ever 3-D advertisement on U.S. movie screens, for Skittles candy from Wrigley, was released Friday, its creators say. The ad, created by the on-screen ad company Screenvision, will run in the 10 biggest U.S. markets for five weeks on 762 new, specially-converted 3-D screens, the company said in a release.

"3-D movies have made such a big impact for the studios and moviegoers which is very promising for Screenvision's 3-D advertising platform," said Screenvision CEO Matthew Kearney.

The 3-D conversion was handled by Legend Films, which said it transformed the Skittles ad from two dimension to 3-D. The ad creators say they're hoping to capitalize on Monsters vs. Aliens, a 3-D feature animation film that was released this year, and plans by Hollywood studios to release more than a dozen more 3-D features this year.
