RTL File Format Decision
The Technical Committee of all technical directors of the RTL Group have chosen XDCAM HD 422 Long GoP as the file format for exchange. XDCAM 50 Mbps, 1080i MPEG-2 will be the file format for high definition programme exchange, either in the group or from external distributors. The committee, under the lead of Jean Lampach (BCE) decided for this format after intensive tests realised mainly at CBC over the last weeks.
This decision is part of RTL Group's strategy of an HD workflow in a complete file-based environment, lowering delivery and post production costs, all with a reduced environmental carbon footprint. This decision will not overrule any agreement between an RTL company and a distributor for another file based or tape based format, or all other acquisition (camera) formats in use at any RTL Group company.
With 43 television channels and 32 radio stations in 11 countries, RTL Group claims to be the leading European entertainment network. The Luxembourg-based media group operates TV channels and radio stations in Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, the UK, Luxembourg, Spain, Russia, Hungary and Croatia. It is one of the world's leading producers of television content.
