RealD and Cinemark Announce 3-D Partnership

RealD and Cinemark are set to announce Tuesday a major 3-D partnership covering as many as 1,500 of the circuit's movie screens throughout the U.S. and Latin America.

A portion of the total involves auditoriums already equipped for digital projection, so some of the 3-D installations can proceed immediately. But most of the Cinemark screens must be converted before 3-D can be added, and just as with a 1,500-screen pact RealD announced with Regal Cinemas last month, Cinemark's conversions aren't likely to happen swiftly pending financial arrangements.

The agreements dramatically extend RealD's lead position in the 3-D rollout.
