The Broader Issue: Digital 3D Part 3 & 4
"For the third and fourth programmes in this series of discussion programmes on stereoscopic 3D, Bill Scanlon turns his attention to visual science and how our brains perceive objects in the physical world and in the worlds created by stereoscopic filmmakers.
Bill visited London City University’s Applied Visual Sciences department to talk to Michael Morgan, a world renowned Professor of Visual Psychophysics who leads the department’s research into visual perception. For his book, ‘The Space Between Our Ears: How Our Brain Represents Visual Space’, Michael won a Wellcome Trust prize.
They were joined by Neil Harris, who many of you will recognise as the pioneering designer of the Lightworks non linear digital editing system, for which he won a Scientific and Technical Oscar. He was also the architect of the Sohonet private media exchange network and one of the founders of the Computer Film Company, which is now part of Framestore|CFC. Neil is currently developing software to semi-automate the process of converting 2D content into stereoscopic 3D."
